This is a self directed Graphic Design Project in which i designed and created a product with relevant packaging.
The product is a designer toy/ doll that is inspired by Maaori culture and centres around the idea of 'Kaitiaki', which is a Maaori word meaning 'Guardian'.
The series of dolls are called My Kaitiaki and looks at the comfort toy or thing that young children have throughout their childhood, something that they feel keeps them safe and secure, and this is what relates to Kaitiakitanga or Guardianship.
The character I designed and created for this project is called Hine Awatea or Day Maiden, and she is a descendant of Ranginui and Papatuuaanuku, who lives with a tribe of people who are winged high in the mountain peaks. These people protect and care for those that inhabit the land to keep peace, harmony and balance.
The target group are young children who desire the need to be looked after or feel safe with that special comfort toy.
The packaging is simple, with it being on KraftPak card stock and utilises a simple colour scheme and motifs throughout. I focused on having Te Reo Maaori as the main language for this with English being secondary and that features on the inner side of the packaging.
